OVERVIEW:

This program features 3 expert faculty who will review the care of patients with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), Dravet syndrome (DS), and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). In particular, the content will address the epidemiology and diagnosis of these seizure-related disorders, along with expert recommendations on treatment selection and the elements involved in the effective transition from pediatric to adult care. Discussion of the treatment for LGS, DS, and TSC will include newer and established anti-epileptic drugs, as well as the use of cannabidiol for symptom relief. The program will end with discussion on the management of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy in adults.

Learning Objectives:

Following participation in this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the factors involved in the recognition of adult patients with a DEE who are incorrectly diagnosed with another seizure condition
  • Have greater competence related to identifying patients who are candidates for recently approved antiseizure medications for the management of LGS and DS
  • Have greater competence related to selecting an appropriate anti-epilepsy therapy for the management of TSC-related seizures
