OVERVIEW:
This Special Interest Group spotlights funding opportunities in the non-profit space for junior investigators.
An important part of career development for junior investigators is to gain experience in grant writing and to obtain independent funding. Most are familiar with the Fellowship (F) and Career Development (K) awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH); however, non-profit organizations can be a great source for funding as well.
This session features brief presentations by a panel of representatives from several groups followed by a moderated discussion. The SIG concludes with an interactive Q&A session.
The session covers:
- What is the application/review process
- How is it different from or the same as NIH funding
- What other programs/opportunities do non-profit funding opportunities offer for junior investigators
Learning Objectives:
Following participation in this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify multiple sources of funding besides the regular NIH funding opportunities
- Describe specific requirements for the funding opportunities from different organizations
