OVERVIEW :
This workshop uses a case-based approach to educate epilepsy clinicians on key principles of the identification and pharmacologic management of comorbid mood and anxiety disorders in the outpatient epilepsy clinic. It aims to enhance attendee skills on the optimal selection and dosing of psychotropic drugs, including antidepressant drugs of the selective-serotonin-reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) families and atypical antipsychotic drugs.
Available antiepileptic drugs are reviewed for patients with psychiatric comorbidities and their pharmacodynamic interactions with psychotropic drugs. The emphasis is for participants to develop skills that can be immediately applied to their home practice setting for care of adults and adolescents.
